"Tea is hot and getting hotter. From iced to spiced, from austere black tea to sweetened and milky chai, from a flowery pick-me-up to a healing herbal, no other beverage has such a place in the heart of every civilization. No wonder it is the most popular beverage in the world, next to water."

Location, Location, Location!

Today, Jason and I enjoyed a delightfully purposeful arranging, decorating and nesting in our brand new office! We carried our new HP eco-printer and the build-it-yourself shelving unit we bought at IKEA up the stairs and surveyed our new home. Before us lay a simple straightaway, yet it somehow glowed with refined sophistication. Enchanting Monets and enticing Van Goghs grace the shiny wood-paneled walls and the 8 identical doors, each with business card taped to the door, curiously entices you to explore the mysterious force of Zen Capitalism... what demand might they supply? We found at the end of the hallway, there's even a woman who practices Chinese medicine and acupuncture. We'd like to meet her and hear about her practice over a cup of tea soon.

Can I just shout a celebratory Woo hoo! for the sudden, increased availability of holistic and alternative medicines and things like Feng Shui, a most infinite concept of interconnection, magnetism and balance that invites the most invigorating challenge of consciously deciding what to do with our freedom!

I know you all know what I'm talkin about; how whenever you answer that call to engage and explore and just let life flow through you, it proves to be a most meditatively spontaneous and pleasurable moment, delivering creative genius that one could never plan for... One of those awesome times when you actually notice a moment bursting with pure potentiality!

For me, a sheet of paper and any sort of writing utensil or even a pair of scissors and some glue and I'm one happy girl! I won't lie- I find a pen-in-hand & a blank page or Word document in front of me to be one of the most teasing, tantalizing and rewarding experiences... Mmmm!! Then again, my friend Megan and I think I might have hypergraphia LOL cuz I never stop journaling, writing poetry, taking notes and jotting down brainstorms and to-do lists! So, you can imagine how excited I get anytime I approach an empty space where you are able literally able to, heck even encouraged to, envision and capture the you you want to become. And gesturing all the right intentions, placing all the right touches in all the right places, we somehow manage to harmonize all the aspects of ourselves with a few posters, chairs and office supplies (and at my request, aromatherapy candles, flowers and mugs!) Oh and all the free marketing materials we got through deals from Vistaprints! LOL

I mean, who doesn't love a blank canvas?! Without fail, it always offers a metaphorical new beginning and a chance to create something beautiful and explore anything your heart desires! Well, whatever you use as your canvas to paint your dreams, I hope it works for you! I know I'm hoping this whole tea allure pays off for Jason and I!

Anyway, long story short, lemme just say I like the place. It has my approval and Jason's too! It's much larger than I remembered, with a fully furnished desk, comfy corner chair and shelving unit. And the coolest part, we didn't plan for it at all! In fact, up until last week, we thought we'd be working out of our tiny 3-room house, which I assure you is not an easy feat! But for the perfect price, this ideal location and accompanying landlord came at the perfect time and has already motivated us beyond compare to get this business actually up and running ASAP!

Plus, as much as like being self-employed, actually doing the work at my house proved so much less efficient than I had hoped for and did interfere with my time management and ability to balance activity and rest; hence it's taken me 6 months to get to this point! Nevertheless, here we are, our foot in the door- our door, of our new office, of our own tea business! All music to my ears!!

And the more tea you buy and try, the more we'll be able to afford to put towards manufacturing and distribution and the more time we'll have to research, create & test new herbal formulas and specialized tea services for you!!

At the very least, we hope you enjoy checking out both our functional and festive sides, in a cozy, yet sophisticated healthy business nook full of beautiful knowledge, creativity, nature and love.. and of course steamy cups of some of our brand new, organic Yera Dé Herbal Teas!

So, to those who are near Southern MD, we're conveniently located in downtown Leonardtown just across from the Courthouse. Come check out our new Office soon and let it inspire you to learn, heal, try and buy some new tea.
We're located on the second floor at 41620 Courthouse Drive, on the John Weiner Law Office Building, Room 5.

Keep an eye out for a future posting about WebLaunch Date and Official Office Hours!

Until then,
Be Well.

Why Drink Tea?

Hey all!

I'm almost finished putting together my first three official teas for sale. I'm hoping you'll try each one, and of course, I highly suggest that you do cuz a) they're all pretty tasty and b) they all specifically remedy three aspects of body imbalance that almost all people struggle with: mood, energy and blood sugar. Plus they're so jam packed with nutrient dense, cleansing, revitalizing, restorative, immune boosting herbs, flowers, roots and fruits that once you start drinking them you're gonna feel so much better that you'll never again wanna go a day without tea! Once you've tried them, please honestly tell me what you think! But I hope that whatever your first reaction, you'll stick around to fully reap the benefits of all the purposeful, meticulous combining of herbs I chose to bring these teas to life.

Indeed, I think the world would run a lot smoother if we all got on a tea routine! Not necessarily the same routine or even the same herbs; but if each of us introduced maybe 4-5 relatively safe, gentle balancing teas into our repertoire and continued to consume them moderately yet regularly over the weeks and months, I bet in time we'd all start noticing how much truly better we feel.

We'd be less stressed and less run down. We'd be more energized naturally, but still somehow calmer and more at peace. It'd probably be a weird sensation at first, so foreign as we realized how off kilter we really once were.

Imagine feeling good, great even, inside and out, mind, body, heart and soul... so good that you'd stop needing to keep reuptaking the more hazard, albeit popular, aspects of existence. And no longer weighed down by a toxic dump of mood swings, junk food, chemicals and the like, we'd all start looking better, actually look like the healthy, happy, fit people we all wish we were. Heck, we'd even smell better; our bodies no longer struggling to constantly clear out toxins.

And no toxins means no toxic thoughts. The vicious cycle of glass half empty would at long last come to an end! We'd all have our glasses full to the brim!! And we'd be free... All thanks to tea! Who knew Fire, Water, Plants and People would turn out to be such a phenomenal elemental combination?!

Still, herbal medicine as a health regimen does takes time. There's no quick fix, no McMeditation that's gonna dissolve all your suffering. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were all the bodily and emotional imbalances stirring inside us. But kinda like hittin the gym or goin on a diet or studying for a class- the investment of time and commitment to an ideal routine makes all the difference!! At first, it's tough to notice; even sometimes seems worse, as the body starts to detox. This intense release triggers headaches, nausea, fevers, fatigue and hellish moodswings as your system desperately tries to rid the body of chemical sludge. But it's worth it. There's nothing better than being clean and clear! Nothing more precious than health!

As a new tea business owner, I of course want everyone to jump on the herbal remedy bandwagon, both for their benefit and mine, but as an aspiring herbalist and former toxic junkie, I know that timing, moderation, persistence and adaptability are the true keys to changing any aspect of self. So, the herbs I wanna start you all off with are some that many of you have probably had many times before in various blends or as looseleaf. I aim for these introductory herbal teas to be potent but gentle; effective, but not risky enough to make anyone feel buzzy or cause them to suffer any ill side effects.

Of course, everyone's system is different. And there are no set rules for herbal medicine, only guidelines, so make sure you do your own research too and TRUST YOUR SENSES! Remember a small amount will go a long way! Especially with known stimulants and sedatives. All herbs, just like any drug (and perhaps any food or drink product) must be used with discretion. You are what you put in your mouth, so choose wisely my friends!! Health is Wealth and Knowledge is Power!

And as much as I'm eager to start selling you my teas and would be thrilled to be your go to tea lady, because the FDA does not fully regulate the manufacturing and sale of herbal products, it is very important that you, the consumer, thoroughly research the quality and manufacturing practices of any products you plan to take, be they mine or from elsewhere. I can guarantee you that I have chosen to source only certified organic herbs and am taking all necessary precautions in research, development manufacturing and storage to ensure you get the highest quality, safe proportioned dosages of specific herbal medicinal blends and in an eco-chic, informative fashion without having to sacrifice the almighty taste factor!!

FYI, we're gonna also have looseleaf individual herbs, such as Rooibos (non-caffeinated South African bush leaf) that will help with some of the agitation & fatigue and also some Chamomile for calming and restoring the bodymind. And eventually, we'll get ya into some of the more potent "top shelf" nervines known for relaxing/sedating the body and mind so you can better destress and get some rest. Indeed, get a good night's sleep plus maybe some organic green tea or yerba maté in the morning and you'll be pleasantly productive by day and blissfully dozing at night! That sure sounds like a good life to me! At least that is what I wish for and hope my teas can help you achieve too!

Love & Peace.
Be Well.

Until next time,

Tonight's Teas

Sweet Dreamzzz everyone. That's what I'm drinking tonight. My specially formulated, not yet released, sleep-enhancing body and nerve relaxant tea. It's a myriad blend of restorative roots combined with a delicate blend of potent herbs and flowers, known for their calming and immune boosting qualities. The intoxicating smell and aromatic flavor of Chinese jasmine balls, along with the subtly sweet tones of sweet osmanthus, chamomile and lavender makes drinking this Sweet Dreamzzz a truly sensuous experience.

Ok, enough plugging my own products :) LOL!

Another interesting highlight of my day was researching and tasting famed Chinese aged Pu'erh, a green tea caked and dried for extended periods of time. The herbal fermentation process gives the herb time to evolve in its nutrient composition and increase in potency. Today, I tried a brand name Pu'erh direct from China, courtesy of a friend who happened to be working overseas. Unfortunately, I can not read the label to tell you which company, but I would consider it to be a relatively commercialized product and less quality than perhaps a naturally aged traditional Pu'erh.

Typically, there are two types of processes to make Pu'erh, known as Raw and Ripened. Ripened is usually synonymous with cooked, but does not literally mean that it is cooked; rather that it is fully aged rapidly through a more synthesized production than the raw. Raw Pu'erh could be considered a more naturally aged Pu'erh. The color and leaf texture is much lighter in the raw, because it is barely heated. It almost has a whisp of silver gray embedded in the dark vegetative green tea round.

The ripened, on the other hand, is a much darker tint with hues of brown and orange, with a much more apparent dryness. There does exist, however, more authentically aged Pu'erh, upwards of 50 years that I know of. I have only tried 10 year old Pu'erh once a few years back while eating dinner at a small Asian restaurant and shop called Ching Ching Cha in Georgetown, D.C. I remember the waiter talking me out of trying the 20 year explaining that it's taste and consistency could be likened to mud. Although at this point in my herbal journey, I am more open and eager to experiencing herbs fully and am much more tolerant of the earthier flavors.

Jason also came across a company today that sells Pu'erh from the 1960's. Because of its distinct and developed flavor, as well as it's enhanced characteristics, Pu'erh could perhaps be likened to a fine wine. Not necessarily always particularly palette pleasing, but inviting nonetheless.

I discovered one of the most interesting aspects about preparing Pu'erh is the steeping process. It is actually recommended to consume only a tiny amount at a time, steeped in hot water for just 30 seconds. This is because the content is so powerfully rich, like an interest-bearing savings account, once might say with Pu'erh you get more bang for your buck. After only 4 sips within 30 minutes, I noted a definite increase in alertness, enthusiasm, energy, mobility and laughter! Jason and our friend Nick also experienced a similar perkiness. We only elected to consume a small amount more before we all agreed we felt fully charged.

Let it be known, however, that longevity of steep is a hallmark of Pu'erh. Re-steepable upwards of 20 times, each at a slightly larger interval of 15-30 seconds per steep. Similar to yerba maté, Pu'erh would serve as a wonderful replacement to caffeinated coffee or as an enhanced green tea experience.

Hope you enjoyed learning about new teas! I know I did!!

Again, please feel free and even encouraged to leave comments! I'd really love for this to be an interactive blog and start up community for us health and wellness minded folk! If you'd prefer to contact me via e-mail, I can be reached at: TeasMePlease@gmail.com and also JaimeMFrodyma@gmail.com.

Bye for now!

Sleep well.

Sweet Dreamzzz,

Today's Tea

Happy Tuesday Tea Drinkers!

As per a wonderful suggestion from my soon to be sister-in-law, I'm going to start posting what teas I personally enjoy drinking and how I use herbal and natural remedies at home.

For example, every morning, I start my day with hot lemon water with powdered ginger, which I use to warm my body, promote detoxification and rev up my digestive system for the day. After that, I drink a variety of herbs and blends depending on what health needs, energy flux or taste cravings I experience.

For instance, this morning, I chose looseleaf yerba maté with a bombilla, which is a filtered straw usually made of metal, but also available in plastic and bamboo. This gives me a high quality dose of vitamins and minerals early in the day, as well as a pleasant stimulating boost in energy.

Yerba Maté's pretty strong in flavor and while I personally appreciate the more vegetative, raw flavors of herbs, many agree adding lemon, honey or cane sugar, definitely enhances plain maté. As a side note, yerba maté is totally resteepable, we're talking 5-15 times. So when I prepare maté, I start with first a cold water shock to the herb, which is quite refreshing to drink, but also helps retrieve nutrients and prolong steepability. After that, just refill as often as needed with moderately heated fresh, filtered water.

I followed my morning tea with a lemon juice facial astringent, basically I rubbed a lemon on my face; and a wildflower honey mask which I left on for about 15 minutes. This combination of fruit enzymes and sugars help promote exfoliation and reparation of skin cells.

My next tea for the day is going to be a chilled Fruitful Prosperity, which is my own personal blend that I'm hoping to have for sale this year, comprised of organic fruit and immune boosting roots and berries. Kinda tastes like tea fruit punch.

After that, I may move on to some mint or cinnamon or perhaps chamomile depending on how my day goes!

Oh and for you braver souls out there, I guess I will also inform you that I do at-home enemas (intestinal flushes) about once a month, using either hot organic coffee, neem leaf and fenugreek powder as an anti-macrobial detox or a cold honey blend for rejuvenation.

That's all for now. Please feel free to add any comments or suggestions!

Be well my friends,

Back in Action!

Hi All!

I am so sorry for the long stretch of silence! I hope you are all still enthusiastically interested in all things tea- cuz I know I am!!! I have been diligently working on myself and all aspects of this burgeoning tea company so that I can really provide a resourceful, reliable and downright enjoyable product and service! I have sent many of you tea samples already and I'm eager to hear your comments and suggestions! I will be sending more as I create new blends! So far, the four we'll have as a definite for sale blends are Vanilla Dusk, Fruitful Prosperity, Positive Vibes and Maté Sky.

Vanilla Dusk is meant as an evening tea, served with or instead of dessert. It's a blend of Madagascar vanilla bean and other relaxing roots that soothe the nervous system and digestive tract and also contains an Indian herb, known as a sugar blocker, to help protect pancreatic function and balance blood sugar metabolism. So far, I've received really enthusiastic feedback about the flavor and feeling it provokes.

Positive Vibes is a gentle refreshing mood enhancing tea. It's caffeine-free and perfect for that 2-5pm lull to help carry you through the day. It's a blend of cooling peppermint and delightful florals (chamomile, chrysanthemum and rose) and includes St. John's Wort for it's anti-depressant properties. It doesn't have a particularly strong flavor, but I find it to be quite a lovely tea.

Fruitful Prosperity is also a caffeine-free blend, gentle enough for daily usage and chock full of natural fruit sugars and antioxidents and immune boosting herbs. I've never been a fruity tea drinker, but I found the request for such was by far the most prominent, so I concocted this to satisfy taste buds and still provide healthy benefits. It's a delicious combination of pineapple, papaya, cherry and goji berries, blended with three of the most recognized medicinal roots known around the world: Astragalus Root (also called Huang Qi in Traditional Chinese Medicine), Marshmallow Root and Slippery Elm Root- all known for boosting disease resistance, treating inflammation and other bodily imbalances and symptoms.

Maté Sky is a blueberry lemon brain boosting stimulant blend featuring Yerba Maté (a South American herb that provides a caffeine-like energy boost with much safer effects on the body and is recognized as the national drink of Argentina), as well as Gotu Kola, Gingo Biloba and Ginseng- all known for boosting the body's ability to adapt and heal.

Jason and I have been drinking these over the past few months and I can attest to the consistent and unique deliciousness of each! Again, I'd love to hear what those who have tried them think as well! I want Yera Dé to be a collaborative effort that helps bring us all a little more of the health and peace that we all want and need, both in a tea and in our world!

It's my goal to create some reinterpreted classics including both black and green tea blends and a spiced chai chocolate blend as well as some additional maté flavors and both single-serving and function specific remedy blends. As my own confidence and energy increase, I will be continuing my herbal medicine research and start posting what I hope will be interesting and informative herb profiles and tea tidbits! We're still waiting on some permits for sales, but I will keep you posted for our official grand opening!!

I couldn't have done this without all your wonderful support and it is my honor to serve you cup after cup of warm, heartfelt healing!!

Yours truly,

Dear Readers & Prospective Customers,

Please Know it is My Hope that My Passion for & Studies of Various Herbal Medicine Practices From Around the World Will Help You As Much As It Has Helped Me!

For I’m not only a Healer, I’m also a Patient!

Indeed, although I am just nearly 27 years old and accustomed to the comforts and reliability of an upper middle class American lifestyle, I have nevertheless endured numerous pains, drains and prejudices over the years; and recovered from many of the ailments that currently plague the youth and soul of our society. I am remarkably well adjusted, all things considered, and finally ready to give back to the world that has given me life and continues to present me with an abundance of beautiful people, places and experiences. It is my humble quest to help improve the quality of life for all.

I was born to an adopted and abused young Japanese woman in Florida in the early 1980’s and later adopted at the age of 5 by a family in Massachusetts. Fortunately, I was raised where the people were decent, the food was plenty and the education was solid. However, given the state of my roots, I was not able to build a solid foundation, physically or emotionally, for many years to come. In the past, I struggled greatly with anger and attachment issues, mood swings, food allergies, eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD and a shocking 6-month period of total loss of my vision. All of these issues I now believe were caused by early childhood trauma, improper diet and a hyper-sensitive immune system. I have since searched far and wide for healing remedies and have read volumes on traditional, contemporary and holistic medicinal practices, making my own personal herbal tea blends for the past five years. In addition, I have engaged in many types of dietetic, herbal, psychological, psychiatric, chiropractic, acupuncture and massage treatments and am certified in Reiki I.

I am an advocate of Holistic Health, the Green Movement and Mind, Body & Spirit Integration. I have formally studied Psychology, Religious Studies, Language and Memory, Anatomy, Neuroscience and Humanities and will be pursuing certification as a Naturopath and Herbalist.

I recently chose Herbal Teas as my business niche and am currently in the process of launching a Green Business with my boyfriend, Jason Krouk.

We chose Yera Dé, LLC, as our company name.
It means Eternally Cycling Life Potential.

This is what we believe in. This is what we hope to share with you.

My Favorite Tea Quotations! Blog #2 June 7, 2009

My Favorite Tea Quotations:
"I don't drink coffee; I take tea, my dear."
"I hope next time when we meet, we won't be fighting each other.
Instead we will be drinking tea together."
- Jackie Chan, Rumble in the Bronx

"On herbs.

There is nothing to resist.

With nothing to resist them.

Harmony and balance do not hide.

Entering harmony and balance,

I wash my teacup."

-The Minister of Leaves, Republic of Tea

"As long as it is hot, wet and goes down the right way, it's fine with me."
- Sarah Ferguson, The Dutchess of York, On Tea

"If Man Has No Tea in Him, He is Incapable of Understanding Truth and Beauty..."
-Japanese Tea Proverb

"With each potent cup, I cannot help but see that tea indeed makes me well."

"it's always tea-time."
-from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland

"Come oh come ye tea-thirsty restless ones - the kettle boils, bubbles and sings musically."
- Rabindranath Tagore

"My My My, it's a beautiful world I like drinking Irish tea Oh with a little bit of lapsang souchong I like making my own tea."
-from the Song 'Beautiful World' by Colin Hay

"There is a great deal of poetry and fine sentiment in a chest of tea."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Tea is wealth itself, because there is nothing that cannot be lost, no problem that will not disappear, no burden that will not float away, between the first sip and the last."
- The Minister of Leaves, Republic of Tea

"Tea- the cups that cheer but not inebriate."
- William Cowper

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."
- Henry James

" ...for tea, though ridiculed by those who are naturally coarse in their nervous sensibilities, or are become so from wine-drinking, and are not susceptible of influence from so refined a stimulant, will always be the favored beverage of the intellectual..."
-Thomas De Quincy

"Tea had come as a deliverer to a land that called for deliverance; a land of beef and ale, of heavy eating and abundant drunkenness; of gray skies and harsh winds; of strong nerved, stout-purposed, slow-thinking men and women. Above all, a land of sheltered homes and warm firesides - firesides that were waiting - waiting, for the bubbling kettle and the fragrant breath of tea."
-Agnes Reppiler

"With each sip I taste, the fire that gives its heat. The water that gives its wetness. The leaf that gives its spell. The pot that gives its emptiness.”
- The Minister of Leaves, Republic of Tea

"It was as if we were at the heart of a maze. We were overwhelmed by the enormity of the tasks ahead. Mary had given us a bottle of milk and a spoonful of loose tea, and so, unable to decide what to do, we did what all Irish men and women do: we had tea. Suddenly the sun appeared and not for the first or last time we felt it uplifting us and changing everything. It seemed like a holiday." -Niall Williams and Christine Breen, O Come Ye Back to Ireland

"When all is complete deep in the teapot, when tea, mint, and sugar have completely diffused throughout the water, coloring and saturating it...then a glass will be filled and poured back into the mixture, blending it further. Then comes waiting. Motionless waiting. Finally, from high up, like some green cataract whose sight and sound mesmerize, the tea will once again cascade into a glass. Now it can be drunk, dreamily, forehead bowed, fingers held wide away from the scalding glass." -Simone Jacquemard, Le Mariage Berbere

"He boils milk with fresh ginger, a quarter of a vanilla bean, and tea that is so dark and fine-leaved that it looks like black dust. He strains it and puts cane sugar in both our cups. There's something euphorically invigorating and yet filling about it. It tastes the way I imagine the Far East must taste." -Peter Hoeg, Smilla's Sense of Snow

"My dear, if you could give me a cup of tea to clear my muddle of a head I should better understand your affairs."
-Charles Dickens

"I am in no way interested in immortality, but only in the taste of tea"
-Lu tung
