"Tea is hot and getting hotter. From iced to spiced, from austere black tea to sweetened and milky chai, from a flowery pick-me-up to a healing herbal, no other beverage has such a place in the heart of every civilization. No wonder it is the most popular beverage in the world, next to water."

Reasons to Drink Rooibos

Pronounced "roy-boss" and meaning "red bush" in Afrikaans this amazing herb is proving to be one of the most popular caffeine-free alternative herbal teas! Originally used by the indigenous Khoi people, Rooibos (latin name Aspalathus linearis) is a unique South African tea that research is beginning to show may be a potential cancer-modulating herbal remedy!! Rooibos can also help to relieve stomach ulcers, nausea, constipation, and heartburn. Studies have shown this tea is comparable to green tea in the amounts of polyphenols it contains. It shows anti-mutagenic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral activity.

In fact, Rooibos can help delay the aging process! The aging of our bodies is caused by toxic compounds called free radicals which are produced as a by-product of normal cell function. These free radicals attack our healthy cells. Over our life time this damage contributes to aging and our immune system weakens. Recently, Japanese scientists have found that Rooibos tea contains a mimic of the enzyme Super Oxide Dismutase (S.O.D.), an antioxidant which attacks the free radicals and limits their damaging effects.

Have a cup of Rooibos before you get ready for bed to ensure a good night's sleep! Rooibos has been found to help with insomnia, disturbed sleeping patterns and headaches. It contains no caffeine and has a relaxing effect on the central nervous system. Rooibos is often prescribed for nervous tension and mild depression as it can help the body to relax naturally.

Rooibos helps pacify infants with colic, stomach cramps and sleeping problems. Simply mix some Rooibos tea with expressed breast milk or formula. It is 100% natural with no colorants or preservatives. It is a mother's miracle.

Rooibos contains alpha hydroxy acid and zinc for healthy, smooth skin. This wonder tea is especially useful when applied to skin irritations like itchy skin, eczema, sunburns, diaper rash and acne. Put used Rooibos tea bags in the refrigerator or freezer. After a hard day's work, put on tired or red eyes to soothe and relax.

Rooibos helps to give you strong bones and teeth because of its calcium, manganese and fluoride content. Rooibos contains magnesium which is necessary for a healthy nervous system. Rooibos increases the absorption of iron in the body. Rooibos contains potassium and copper minerals that are necessary for several metabolic functions. Rooibos contains no oxalic acid and can therefore be enjoyed by persons suffering from kidney stones.

Rooibos helps you recuperate after a hangover. Rooibos makes a great thirst-quencher and sport drink. Because of its mineral content of iron, potassium, zinc, manganese and sodium, it restores the body's equilibrium after stressful activities and strenuous exercise. Rooibos also helps to control your appetite and thus can be beneficial in weight loss.

Oh and did we mention, it tastes great! With its uniquely distinctive nutty flavor, Rooibos is a very versatile caffeine-free alternative and pairs well with most anything. Drink it hot or cold, with or without milk, sugar or honey. Add lemon or mix it with fruit juices for a truly enjoyable beverage blend.

Rooibos tea is also used in cooking and baking. It can replace the liquid content in recipes for soups, marinades, sauces, stews and cakes for added flavor and nutrition.

Tuesday's Tea- Peppermint!

One of my favorite types of tea to drink is peppermint tea. I enjoy it for its delicious, comforting taste and, even more importantly, for its wonderful variety of health benefits. Peppermint tea, which is often referred to as mint tea, is known to be a favorite choice of tea to many. A peppermint stick added to peppermint tea can be a very delicious and warm treat in the cold months of winter. As delicious as peppermint tea is, some people claim that they hardly realize that they are drinking tea when they drink it. There are many health benefits that are known to be associated with peppermint tea. Here, we will take a much closer look at some of the health benefits.

Drinking peppermint tea is an easy, delicious, and inexpensive way to really boost your health. Whether you are suffering from weak digestion, stress, headaches, insomnia, hormone issues, or want to boost your protection from cancer, there isn't much to lose in trying this wonderful natural remedy. There are many health benefits that are known to be associated with drinking peppermint tea which you may want to take advantage of. The first thing most people think about in relation to peppermint is a sweet, striped candy with a refreshing taste. What gives our favorite candies and teas that awesome flavor, however, is actually a plant. This purple flower with bright green leaves boasts more than 30 different species of its kind. According to Greek mythology, Persephone turned Mentha the nymph into a mint. Thus, creating this plant out of raging anger which is a wide contrast to the calming benefits of peppermint. In addition to uses in food, it's also present in medicines such as cold remedies, muscle rubs, vapor rubs, and vapor bathing supplies. Peppermint is a multi-use herb, which can be incorporated into remedies for people of all ages to reap its benefits. There are also many forms which it can be used in, such as the whole plant form, diluted essential oils, teas, and in different skin conditioners. The method one decides to use really depends on which is the most convenient for them.

Peppermint Tea May Relieve Stomach Problems

Have you ever wondered why some restaurant serve mints after you have finished your meal? This is because peppermint is great a stoking your digestive fire resulting in better digestion of your meal. Ever feel bloated, gassy, or just generally uncomfortable after a meal? Then try sipping a mug of warm peppermint tea as you eat. The digestion facilitating menthol will make everything go through you with much more ease. As a result, you can get more enjoyment out of your meals without the fear of after dinner bloating or indigestion. In fact, peppermint is a popular remedy for those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and has been shown to significantly reduce symptoms. Are you feeling a little nauseated? Sip a cup of peppermint tea. Just as peppermint aids in digestion, it also helps calm down an upset stomach.

Peppermint is often recognized as a "stomach healer." If you have stomach problems, you may want to consider drinking peppermint tea. Stomach problems include irritable bowel syndrome, frequent diarrhea or constipation, stomach aches or nausea. Peppermint is often used to flavor foods, as a food itself, or to disinfect. It contains a carminative (an agent that dispels gas and bloating in the human digestive system) and an antispasmodic that relieves stomach and intestinal cramps. Peppermint is widely known for its effect on the intestinal tract and stomach ills. Peppermint can be used to subside gas, nausea, and the stomach pain of an irritable bowel, intestinal cramps, or indigestion. Some use it for too much stomach acid (hyper acidity) and gastroenteritis (nausea and stomach upset that we sometimes call stomach flu), and mothers incorporate it for safe treatment in infants with colic. Stomach ails in babies are treated with either a teaspoon of peppermint tea, or a cloth soaked in it placed on the belly. Pregnant women use it in the form of tea to relieve morning sickness. Many people find peppermint tea preferable to other forms of peppermint which may be used to relieve stomach problems. The main reason is because peppermint tea does not have sugar, at least not until you choose to add it.

Peppermint Tea May Help Relieve Stress

The flavor and smell of peppermint is known to relieve stress. This is why it is not surprising that peppermint tea is said to relieve stress. Many people find that when they drink peppermint tea, they are able to sleep better at night, which is believed to be because of its stress relieving properties. Others believe that the stress relief that you may experience from drinking peppermint tea may be linked to the immune system boosting properties of this tea.

Peppermint Tea May Help Relieve Pain

Peppermint tea has been shown to be a helpful aid in relieving pain. It is particularly helpful for relieving irritating pain of the common headache. Do you feel averse to popping a pain pill every time a minor ache occurs in your head? Then, you should try sipping a cup of hot peppermint tea. Not only will it relax you psychologically, but can actually alleviate the pressure and pain as well.

Peppermint is also a mild muscle relaxant. For this reason, it is a popular beverage to be consumed just before bedtime. However, you do not need to restrict it to the role of sleeping aid. Try sipping a cup of peppermint tea whenever you are feeling a little tense, tight, anxious, or sore and you might just feel a little more relaxed as a result. In fact, peppermint tea just might be the perfect healthy antidote to your mild but nagging stress. Unwind with a few cups of peppermint tea throughout the day and watch as you glide through your activities more calmly.

Peppermint Tea May Help the Immune system

Many people believe that peppermint tea can help relieve symptoms of the common cold or flu. Peppermint tea does contain some very healthy vitamins, including Vitamin B, potassium and calcium. This may be the reason that it helps relieve these symptoms. It also may prevent you from getting sick in the future. Some people believe that peppermint tea can also help control mild cases of asthma, though this is highly debated by medical professionals.

Green tea isn't the only tea that can help prevent cancer. Some studies show that peppermint can stop cancerous growths in animals. So, while the findings aren't definitive, it certainly won't hurt to drink a little more peppermint tea if you want to boost your cancer protection, especially in light of all the tea's other wonderful benefits.

Lastly, it has been speculated that peppermint tea can help control hormone related acne by mildly boosting estrogen levels. In addition, because of this detail, drinking peppermint tea can be a useful remedy for women with low estrogen levels suffering from problems such as excess bodily hair or even simply any of the usual issues resulting from menopause.

Peppermint Tea May Reduce Bad Breathe

If you have bad breathe, you may want to consider drinking peppermint tea. Any type of peppermint is known to reduce bad breathe. When you drink peppermint tea, there is a good chance that your bad breathe will be reduced temporarily. Some people firmly believe that when you drink peppermint tea on a regular basis, your bad breathe will permanently go away, though this is very debatable. If you have constant bad breathe and have tried everything else, peppermint tea may be worth a shot.

Even More Ways Peppermint Tea May Help

There are a variety of others ways that peppermint tea is known to help the body. Some people believe that peppermint tea can aid in weight loss, as it may help suppress your appetite. Peppermint tea is also known to work like a charm when it comes to relieving baby colic. The pain experienced from headaches and migraines are also known to be eased through drinking peppermint tea.

Peppermint can also be applied to the skin for relief of certain conditions. Just remember that you should dilute it when using the essential oils. They are too strong to apply directly to the skin. Itchy conditions such as insect bites, eczema, and other skin irritations, including those of poison ivy can be temporarily relieved by rubbing peppermint onto them. It is also said that you can rub the oils onto the temples or scalp for relief of a headache. Peppermint foot lotions and creams kill the fungus associated with athlete's foot. The pain, burning, and inflammation of muscles will feel relief after rubbing them down with a muscle rub or ice treatment containing the menthol of peppermint. It is absorbed into the skin pretty easily, it has the temporary pain-relieving effect via its relaxing of organs or muscles that spasm. Virus, fungi, and bacteria can be decreased by the menthol in peppermint, but is often overlooked for this purpose. Some mothers give peppermint tea to their babies for treatment of thrush, by coating the inside of their mouth with a little bit of it.

The Health Benefits of a Peppermint Tea Bath

One of my favorite things to do if my body is feeling really achy is taking a soothing peppermint tea bath in warm water. A peppermint tea bath helps relieve sore tired muscles and achy bodies. Peppermint tea baths also provide certain health benefits such as treating inflammation throughout the body.
All you have to do to enjoy a soothing relaxing peppermint tea bath and get the health benefits from it, is by simply filling up your bath tub with really hot water bath water and then by simply place five or six peppermint tea bags into your bath tub. Once you have placed your peppermint tea bags into the bath water you will allow the peppermint tea to soak in the water for about ten to twenty minutes to help release all the natural oils, scents, and antioxidants from the peppermint tea bags. Now once the tea bags have infused your bath water with the wonderful peppermint herb you can get into the tub and relax for a while. You might however want to bring a book or a magazine with you if you plan on spending a while in the tub relaxing that way you have something to keep your mind off things while you are relaxing and enjoying your bath. However, in order to get the full health benefits of a peppermint tea bath you should spend at least an hour in one.

Peppermint tea baths provide a lot of health benefits such as relieving inflammation throughout the body, while relieving pain and aches as well. Peppermint tea baths also help detox your body of harmful chemicals that could cause potential health problems for you later on. Peppermint tea baths are also great to take if you have a cold because the scent of the peppermint really helps open up your sinuses and will relieve some congestion in your chest as well. These baths are even great to take if you have the flu because the peppermint will help sooth your achy body by stopping body chills and easing headaches and nausea. You can even take a peppermint tea bath if you are feeling a little sad or depressed because the peppermint will help rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit leaving you happy, relaxed, and smiling afterwords.

*As with any herbal remedies, you must still use caution with dosages and frequency in using peppermint. If you experience nausea, rashes, or headaches after consuming it, then you most likely have an allergy to peppermint. If this happens, continue all use immediately. People with gallbladder problems, GERD, stomach obstructions, or liver diseases should not use it, as it will worsen the conditions. It is believed by some in health care that peppermint may relax bile ducts, promoting the bile flow. Others report it as an aid in gallbladder disease, which can dissolve gallstones when combined with other acid therapies. Peppermint can slow milk production in nursing women from a slight amount to a much larger scale depending upon consumption. The essential oil should not be used in the eyes or open wounds, and never use essential oil of any kind in an undiluted form. Peppermint can leave the esophageal sphincter open in some individuals, allowing stomach acids to rise up the throat and cause severe damage. This is why those with hiatal hernia, GERD, or problems with the esophagus should not use peppermint.

Happy Tea Drinking!

"When the world is all at odds
and the mind is lost at sea,
then cease the useless tedium
and brew a cup of tea.
There is magic in its fragrance,
There is solace in its taste;
And the laden moments vanish
somehow into space.
And the world becomes a lovely thing!
There's beauty as you'll see;
All because you briefly stopped
to brew a cup of tea."

Tips for Preparing Loose Leaf Tea:

To begin, allow yourself the time to enjoy tea. Engage the ceremony of brewing loose tea. Brew with good clean water, recognize what’s happening as the herbs release their unique essence into the water. Taste the bold and subtle flavors that Nature has imbued into a myriad of health-promoting herbs. Sit back and indulge in each warming sip letting it heal you from the inside out!

The art of using loose tea is nice because you are more involved with the preparation and brew. As you scoop out the herbs get to know them by taking a moment to look at them — each one has it’s own character and health promoting properties. You can tailor the strength and taste by varying the amount of tea you scoop into the tea ball and how long you let it steep.

When filling your tea ball, leave enough room in the tea ball to allow the herbs to ‘swell’ as they steep. This will allow for a better release of herbal properties.

To make iced tea, just brew as you would when making hot tea, let it steep at least 15 minutes, longer if you prefer it stronger, then chill and enjoy.

Add natural sweeteners like organic Agave Nectar, Honey, even Maple Syrup if you like!

Keep tea fresher longer by storing in airtight containers, keep free of moisture and out of sunlight.

Water quality affects how tea will taste. We recommend pure spring water. The mineral content and lack of pollutants like chlorine and fluoride, simply tastes better with quality organic herbs.

Herbal Infusions:

Infusions are the most medicinally potent water based herbal preparations. Infusions are steeped for a longer period of time then a cup of tea. Resulting in a much darker, richer and thicker beverage.

To prepare an infusion, start with a pint or quart canning jar or a French press.

An infusion is a larger amount of herbs brewed for a longer time. Typically, one ounce by weight (about a cup by volume) of dried herb is placed in a quart jar, which is then filled to the top with hot water, tightly lidded and allowed to steep for 4-10 hours. After straining, a cup or more is consumed, and the remainder chilled to slow spoilage. Drinking 2-4 cups a day is usual. Since the minerals and other phytochemicals in nourishing herbs are made more accessible by drying, dried herbs are considered best for infusions.

Making your Infusion:

Brew it with good clean water, and recognize what’s happening as the herbs release their special properties into the water. Taste the subtle flavors that Nature has imbued these health-promoting herbs with – sit back and sip – recognize the life in love!

It’s essential to start by using pure water; water quality will affect the flavor and quality of your infusion. We recommend pure spring water. The mineral content and lack of pollutants like chlorine and fluoride, simply tastes better with natural organic herbs.
It may be helpful to make infusions at night before going to bed that way they are ready in the morning.

Place a large handful of herbs into a jar, at least enough to cover the bottom of the jar. Turn your teapot on until it just about boils, pour the hot water up to the rim of the jar, cover with a lid, in the morning strain the herbs out. Drink your Infusion throughout the day! You can add a touch of fresh lemon or a dab of honey to enhance the herbal properties in your infusion.

Make sure to store any left over infusion in the refrigerator or you could use even use it as a face rinse or to water your houseplants!

Principles of Holistic Health

Optimal Health is the primary goal of holistic medical practice. It is the conscious pursuit of the highest level of functioning and balance of the physical, environmental, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of human experience, resulting in a dynamic state of being fully alive. This creates a condition of well-being regardless of the presence or absence of disease.

The Healing Power of Love. Holistic health care practitioners strive to meet the patient with grace, kindness, acceptance, and spirit without condition, as love is life’s most powerful healer.

Whole Person. Holistic health care practitioners view people as the unity of body, mind, spirit and the systems in which they live.

Prevention and Treatment. Holistic health care practitioners promote health, prevent illness and help raise awareness of dis-ease in our lives rather than merely managing symptoms. A holistic approach relieves symptoms, modifies contributing factors, and enhances the patient’s life system to optimize future well-being.

Innate Healing Power. All people have innate powers of healing in their bodies, minds and spirits. Holistic health care practitioners evoke and help patients utilize these powers to affect the healing process.

Integration of Healing Systems. Holistic health care practitioners embrace a lifetime of learning about all safe and effective options in diagnosis and treatment. These options come from a variety of traditions, and are selected in order to best meet the unique needs of the patient. The realm of choices may include lifestyle modification and complementary approaches as well as conventional drugs and surgery.

Relationship-centered Care. The ideal practitioner-patient relationship is a partnership which encourages patient autonomy, and values the needs and insights of both parties. The quality of this relationship is an essential contributor to the healing process.

Individuality. Holistic health care practitioners focus patient care on the unique needs and nature of the person who has an illness rather than the illness that has the person.

Teaching by Example. Holistic health care practitioners continually work toward the personal incorporation of the principles of holistic health, which then profoundly influence the quality of the healing relationship.

Learning Opportunities. All life experiences including birth, joy, suffering and the dying process are profound learning opportunities for both patients and health care practitioners.

Location, Location, Location!

Today, Jason and I enjoyed a delightfully purposeful arranging, decorating and nesting in our brand new office! We carried our new HP eco-printer and the build-it-yourself shelving unit we bought at IKEA up the stairs and surveyed our new home. Before us lay a simple straightaway, yet it somehow glowed with refined sophistication. Enchanting Monets and enticing Van Goghs grace the shiny wood-paneled walls and the 8 identical doors, each with business card taped to the door, curiously entices you to explore the mysterious force of Zen Capitalism... what demand might they supply? We found at the end of the hallway, there's even a woman who practices Chinese medicine and acupuncture. We'd like to meet her and hear about her practice over a cup of tea soon.

Can I just shout a celebratory Woo hoo! for the sudden, increased availability of holistic and alternative medicines and things like Feng Shui, a most infinite concept of interconnection, magnetism and balance that invites the most invigorating challenge of consciously deciding what to do with our freedom!

I know you all know what I'm talkin about; how whenever you answer that call to engage and explore and just let life flow through you, it proves to be a most meditatively spontaneous and pleasurable moment, delivering creative genius that one could never plan for... One of those awesome times when you actually notice a moment bursting with pure potentiality!

For me, a sheet of paper and any sort of writing utensil or even a pair of scissors and some glue and I'm one happy girl! I won't lie- I find a pen-in-hand & a blank page or Word document in front of me to be one of the most teasing, tantalizing and rewarding experiences... Mmmm!! Then again, my friend Megan and I think I might have hypergraphia LOL cuz I never stop journaling, writing poetry, taking notes and jotting down brainstorms and to-do lists! So, you can imagine how excited I get anytime I approach an empty space where you are able literally able to, heck even encouraged to, envision and capture the you you want to become. And gesturing all the right intentions, placing all the right touches in all the right places, we somehow manage to harmonize all the aspects of ourselves with a few posters, chairs and office supplies (and at my request, aromatherapy candles, flowers and mugs!) Oh and all the free marketing materials we got through deals from Vistaprints! LOL

I mean, who doesn't love a blank canvas?! Without fail, it always offers a metaphorical new beginning and a chance to create something beautiful and explore anything your heart desires! Well, whatever you use as your canvas to paint your dreams, I hope it works for you! I know I'm hoping this whole tea allure pays off for Jason and I!

Anyway, long story short, lemme just say I like the place. It has my approval and Jason's too! It's much larger than I remembered, with a fully furnished desk, comfy corner chair and shelving unit. And the coolest part, we didn't plan for it at all! In fact, up until last week, we thought we'd be working out of our tiny 3-room house, which I assure you is not an easy feat! But for the perfect price, this ideal location and accompanying landlord came at the perfect time and has already motivated us beyond compare to get this business actually up and running ASAP!

Plus, as much as like being self-employed, actually doing the work at my house proved so much less efficient than I had hoped for and did interfere with my time management and ability to balance activity and rest; hence it's taken me 6 months to get to this point! Nevertheless, here we are, our foot in the door- our door, of our new office, of our own tea business! All music to my ears!!

And the more tea you buy and try, the more we'll be able to afford to put towards manufacturing and distribution and the more time we'll have to research, create & test new herbal formulas and specialized tea services for you!!

At the very least, we hope you enjoy checking out both our functional and festive sides, in a cozy, yet sophisticated healthy business nook full of beautiful knowledge, creativity, nature and love.. and of course steamy cups of some of our brand new, organic Yera Dé Herbal Teas!

So, to those who are near Southern MD, we're conveniently located in downtown Leonardtown just across from the Courthouse. Come check out our new Office soon and let it inspire you to learn, heal, try and buy some new tea.
We're located on the second floor at 41620 Courthouse Drive, on the John Weiner Law Office Building, Room 5.

Keep an eye out for a future posting about WebLaunch Date and Official Office Hours!

Until then,
Be Well.

Love & Peace,
Jaime

Why Drink Tea?

Hey all!

I'm almost finished putting together my first three official teas for sale. I'm hoping you'll try each one, and of course, I highly suggest that you do cuz a) they're all pretty tasty and b) they all specifically remedy three aspects of body imbalance that almost all people struggle with: mood, energy and blood sugar. Plus they're so jam packed with nutrient dense, cleansing, revitalizing, restorative, immune boosting herbs, flowers, roots and fruits that once you start drinking them you're gonna feel so much better that you'll never again wanna go a day without tea! Once you've tried them, please honestly tell me what you think! But I hope that whatever your first reaction, you'll stick around to fully reap the benefits of all the purposeful, meticulous combining of herbs I chose to bring these teas to life.

Indeed, I think the world would run a lot smoother if we all got on a tea routine! Not necessarily the same routine or even the same herbs; but if each of us introduced maybe 4-5 relatively safe, gentle balancing teas into our repertoire and continued to consume them moderately yet regularly over the weeks and months, I bet in time we'd all start noticing how much truly better we feel.

We'd be less stressed and less run down. We'd be more energized naturally, but still somehow calmer and more at peace. It'd probably be a weird sensation at first, so foreign as we realized how off kilter we really once were.

Imagine feeling good, great even, inside and out, mind, body, heart and soul... so good that you'd stop needing to keep reuptaking the more hazard, albeit popular, aspects of existence. And no longer weighed down by a toxic dump of mood swings, junk food, chemicals and the like, we'd all start looking better, actually look like the healthy, happy, fit people we all wish we were. Heck, we'd even smell better; our bodies no longer struggling to constantly clear out toxins.

And no toxins means no toxic thoughts. The vicious cycle of glass half empty would at long last come to an end! We'd all have our glasses full to the brim!! And we'd be free... All thanks to tea! Who knew Fire, Water, Plants and People would turn out to be such a phenomenal elemental combination?!

Still, herbal medicine as a health regimen does takes time. There's no quick fix, no McMeditation that's gonna dissolve all your suffering. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were all the bodily and emotional imbalances stirring inside us. But kinda like hittin the gym or goin on a diet or studying for a class- the investment of time and commitment to an ideal routine makes all the difference!! At first, it's tough to notice; even sometimes seems worse, as the body starts to detox. This intense release triggers headaches, nausea, fevers, fatigue and hellish moodswings as your system desperately tries to rid the body of chemical sludge. But it's worth it. There's nothing better than being clean and clear! Nothing more precious than health!

As a new tea business owner, I of course want everyone to jump on the herbal remedy bandwagon, both for their benefit and mine, but as an aspiring herbalist and former toxic junkie, I know that timing, moderation, persistence and adaptability are the true keys to changing any aspect of self. So, the herbs I wanna start you all off with are some that many of you have probably had many times before in various blends or as looseleaf. I aim for these introductory herbal teas to be potent but gentle; effective, but not risky enough to make anyone feel buzzy or cause them to suffer any ill side effects.

Of course, everyone's system is different. And there are no set rules for herbal medicine, only guidelines, so make sure you do your own research too and TRUST YOUR SENSES! Remember a small amount will go a long way! Especially with known stimulants and sedatives. All herbs, just like any drug (and perhaps any food or drink product) must be used with discretion. You are what you put in your mouth, so choose wisely my friends!! Health is Wealth and Knowledge is Power!

And as much as I'm eager to start selling you my teas and would be thrilled to be your go to tea lady, because the FDA does not fully regulate the manufacturing and sale of herbal products, it is very important that you, the consumer, thoroughly research the quality and manufacturing practices of any products you plan to take, be they mine or from elsewhere. I can guarantee you that I have chosen to source only certified organic herbs and am taking all necessary precautions in research, development manufacturing and storage to ensure you get the highest quality, safe proportioned dosages of specific herbal medicinal blends and in an eco-chic, informative fashion without having to sacrifice the almighty taste factor!!

FYI, we're gonna also have looseleaf individual herbs, such as Rooibos (non-caffeinated South African bush leaf) that will help with some of the agitation & fatigue and also some Chamomile for calming and restoring the bodymind. And eventually, we'll get ya into some of the more potent "top shelf" nervines known for relaxing/sedating the body and mind so you can better destress and get some rest. Indeed, get a good night's sleep plus maybe some organic green tea or yerba maté in the morning and you'll be pleasantly productive by day and blissfully dozing at night! That sure sounds like a good life to me! At least that is what I wish for and hope my teas can help you achieve too!

Love & Peace.
Be Well.

Until next time,
Jaime

Tonight's Teas

Sweet Dreamzzz everyone. That's what I'm drinking tonight. My specially formulated, not yet released, sleep-enhancing body and nerve relaxant tea. It's a myriad blend of restorative roots combined with a delicate blend of potent herbs and flowers, known for their calming and immune boosting qualities. The intoxicating smell and aromatic flavor of Chinese jasmine balls, along with the subtly sweet tones of sweet osmanthus, chamomile and lavender makes drinking this Sweet Dreamzzz a truly sensuous experience.

Ok, enough plugging my own products :) LOL!

Another interesting highlight of my day was researching and tasting famed Chinese aged Pu'erh, a green tea caked and dried for extended periods of time. The herbal fermentation process gives the herb time to evolve in its nutrient composition and increase in potency. Today, I tried a brand name Pu'erh direct from China, courtesy of a friend who happened to be working overseas. Unfortunately, I can not read the label to tell you which company, but I would consider it to be a relatively commercialized product and less quality than perhaps a naturally aged traditional Pu'erh.

Typically, there are two types of processes to make Pu'erh, known as Raw and Ripened. Ripened is usually synonymous with cooked, but does not literally mean that it is cooked; rather that it is fully aged rapidly through a more synthesized production than the raw. Raw Pu'erh could be considered a more naturally aged Pu'erh. The color and leaf texture is much lighter in the raw, because it is barely heated. It almost has a whisp of silver gray embedded in the dark vegetative green tea round.

The ripened, on the other hand, is a much darker tint with hues of brown and orange, with a much more apparent dryness. There does exist, however, more authentically aged Pu'erh, upwards of 50 years that I know of. I have only tried 10 year old Pu'erh once a few years back while eating dinner at a small Asian restaurant and shop called Ching Ching Cha in Georgetown, D.C. I remember the waiter talking me out of trying the 20 year explaining that it's taste and consistency could be likened to mud. Although at this point in my herbal journey, I am more open and eager to experiencing herbs fully and am much more tolerant of the earthier flavors.

Jason also came across a company today that sells Pu'erh from the 1960's. Because of its distinct and developed flavor, as well as it's enhanced characteristics, Pu'erh could perhaps be likened to a fine wine. Not necessarily always particularly palette pleasing, but inviting nonetheless.

I discovered one of the most interesting aspects about preparing Pu'erh is the steeping process. It is actually recommended to consume only a tiny amount at a time, steeped in hot water for just 30 seconds. This is because the content is so powerfully rich, like an interest-bearing savings account, once might say with Pu'erh you get more bang for your buck. After only 4 sips within 30 minutes, I noted a definite increase in alertness, enthusiasm, energy, mobility and laughter! Jason and our friend Nick also experienced a similar perkiness. We only elected to consume a small amount more before we all agreed we felt fully charged.

Let it be known, however, that longevity of steep is a hallmark of Pu'erh. Re-steepable upwards of 20 times, each at a slightly larger interval of 15-30 seconds per steep. Similar to yerba maté, Pu'erh would serve as a wonderful replacement to caffeinated coffee or as an enhanced green tea experience.

Hope you enjoyed learning about new teas! I know I did!!

Today's Tea

Happy Tuesday Tea Drinkers!

As per a wonderful suggestion from my soon to be sister-in-law, I'm going to start posting what teas I personally enjoy drinking and how I use herbal and natural remedies at home.

For example, every morning, I start my day with hot lemon water with powdered ginger, which I use to warm my body, promote detoxification and rev up my digestive system for the day. After that, I drink a variety of herbs and blends depending on what health needs, energy flux or taste cravings I experience.

For instance, this morning, I chose looseleaf yerba maté with a bombilla, which is a filtered straw usually made of metal, but also available in plastic and bamboo. This gives me a high quality dose of vitamins and minerals early in the day, as well as a pleasant stimulating boost in energy.

Yerba Maté's pretty strong in flavor and while I personally appreciate the more vegetative, raw flavors of herbs, many agree adding lemon, honey or cane sugar, definitely enhances plain maté. As a side note, yerba maté is totally resteepable, we're talking 5-15 times. So when I prepare maté, I start with first a cold water shock to the herb, which is quite refreshing to drink, but also helps retrieve nutrients and prolong steepability. After that, just refill as often as needed with moderately heated fresh, filtered water.

I followed my morning tea with a lemon juice facial astringent, basically I rubbed a lemon on my face; and a wildflower honey mask which I left on for about 15 minutes. This combination of fruit enzymes and sugars help promote exfoliation and reparation of skin cells.

My next tea for the day is going to be a chilled Fruitful Prosperity, which is my own personal blend that I'm hoping to have for sale this year, comprised of organic fruit and immune boosting roots and berries. Kinda tastes like tea fruit punch.

After that, I may move on to some mint or cinnamon or perhaps chamomile depending on how my day goes!

Oh and for you braver souls out there, I guess I will also inform you that I do at-home enemas (intestinal flushes) about once a month, using either hot organic coffee, neem leaf and fenugreek powder as an anti-macrobial detox or a cold honey blend for rejuvenation.

That's all for now. Please feel free to add any comments or suggestions!

Be well my friends,
Jaime

Back in Action!

Hi All!

I am so sorry for the long stretch of silence! I hope you are all still enthusiastically interested in all things tea- cuz I know I am!!! I have been diligently working on myself and all aspects of this burgeoning tea company so that I can really provide a resourceful, reliable and downright enjoyable product and service! I have sent many of you tea samples already and I'm eager to hear your comments and suggestions! I will be sending more as I create new blends! So far, the four we'll have as a definite for sale blends are Vanilla Dusk, Fruitful Prosperity, Positive Vibes and Maté Sky.

Vanilla Dusk is meant as an evening tea, served with or instead of dessert. It's a blend of Madagascar vanilla bean and other relaxing roots that soothe the nervous system and digestive tract and also contains an Indian herb, known as a sugar blocker, to help protect pancreatic function and balance blood sugar metabolism. So far, I've received really enthusiastic feedback about the flavor and feeling it provokes.

Positive Vibes is a gentle refreshing mood enhancing tea. It's caffeine-free and perfect for that 2-5pm lull to help carry you through the day. It's a blend of cooling peppermint and delightful florals (chamomile, chrysanthemum and rose) and includes St. John's Wort for it's anti-depressant properties. It doesn't have a particularly strong flavor, but I find it to be quite a lovely tea.

Fruitful Prosperity is also a caffeine-free blend, gentle enough for daily usage and chock full of natural fruit sugars and antioxidents and immune boosting herbs. I've never been a fruity tea drinker, but I found the request for such was by far the most prominent, so I concocted this to satisfy taste buds and still provide healthy benefits. It's a delicious combination of pineapple, papaya, cherry and goji berries, blended with three of the most recognized medicinal roots known around the world: Astragalus Root (also called Huang Qi in Traditional Chinese Medicine), Marshmallow Root and Slippery Elm Root- all known for boosting disease resistance, treating inflammation and other bodily imbalances and symptoms.

Maté Sky is a blueberry lemon brain boosting stimulant blend featuring Yerba Maté (a South American herb that provides a caffeine-like energy boost with much safer effects on the body and is recognized as the national drink of Argentina), as well as Gotu Kola, Gingo Biloba and Ginseng- all known for boosting the body's ability to adapt and heal.

Jason and I have been drinking these over the past few months and I can attest to the consistent and unique deliciousness of each! Again, I'd love to hear what those who have tried them think as well! I want Yera Dé to be a collaborative effort that helps bring us all a little more of the health and peace that we all want and need, both in a tea and in our world!

It's my goal to create some reinterpreted classics including both black and green tea blends and a spiced chai chocolate blend as well as some additional maté flavors and both single-serving and function specific remedy blends. As my own confidence and energy increase, I will be continuing my herbal medicine research and start posting what I hope will be interesting and informative herb profiles and tea tidbits! We're still waiting on some permits for sales, but I will keep you posted for our official grand opening!!

I couldn't have done this without all your wonderful support and it is my honor to serve you cup after cup of warm, heartfelt healing!!

Yours truly,

Jaime

Dear Readers & Prospective Customers,

Please Know it is My Hope that My Passion for & Studies of Various Herbal Medicine Practices From Around the World Will Help You As Much As It Has Helped Me!

For I’m not only a Healer, I’m also a Patient!

Indeed, although I am just nearly 27 years old and accustomed to the comforts and reliability of an upper middle class American lifestyle, I have nevertheless endured numerous pains, drains and prejudices over the years; and recovered from many of the ailments that currently plague the youth and soul of our society. I am remarkably well adjusted, all things considered, and finally ready to give back to the world that has given me life and continues to present me with an abundance of beautiful people, places and experiences. It is my humble quest to help improve the quality of life for all.

I was born to an adopted and abused young Japanese woman in Florida in the early 1980’s and later adopted at the age of 5 by a family in Massachusetts. Fortunately, I was raised where the people were decent, the food was plenty and the education was solid. However, given the state of my roots, I was not able to build a solid foundation, physically or emotionally, for many years to come. In the past, I struggled greatly with anger and attachment issues, mood swings, food allergies, eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD and a shocking 6-month period of total loss of my vision. All of these issues I now believe were caused by early childhood trauma, improper diet and a hyper-sensitive immune system. I have since searched far and wide for healing remedies and have read volumes on traditional, contemporary and holistic medicinal practices, making my own personal herbal tea blends for the past five years. In addition, I have engaged in many types of dietetic, herbal, psychological, psychiatric, chiropractic, acupuncture and massage treatments and am certified in Reiki I.

I am an advocate of Holistic Health, the Green Movement and Mind, Body & Spirit Integration. I have formally studied Psychology, Religious Studies, Language and Memory, Anatomy, Neuroscience and Humanities and will be pursuing certification as a Naturopath and Herbalist.

I recently chose Herbal Teas as my business niche and am currently in the process of launching a Green Business with my boyfriend, Jason Krouk.

We chose Yera Dé, LLC, as our company name.
It means Eternally Cycling Life Potential.

This is what we believe in. This is what we hope to share with you.
